Early Winter
I have mentioned before that I tend to get strange bits of songs stuck in my head. Last time I talked about Pete Doherty, this time it’s Gwen Stefani – both have been hanging around in my brain for years now. Early Winter is not Stefani’s most famous song and not her best, either. But I think the metaphor is apt and the video does a very good job of capturing that moment when it suddenly turns cold, the air becomes crisp and almost metallic and the snow starts to fall.
I have been waiting for that specific moment to do this post, and while it has probably already happened in Estonia, in Belgium it’s still warm. But I cannot wait any longer, because I have finally found the right garment to match the song and I’m not one of those unfathomable people who can delay the pleasure of showing off their new clothes. I always knew I would need a big, flowing, fluffy skirt as inspired by the video. And that it should probably be white, because, well, winter. This skirt by Riina Põldroos is exactly what I’ve had in mind.
A simple T-shirt and a fancy skirt combo is an excellent look and as wearing the skirt on its own isn’t really an option in the society – and the climate – I live in, this is most likely the way I’m going to wear it. Or I might go for a grey cashmere sweater, very Jenna Lyons at The Met.
Just waiting for the snow to fall.

– Bjork & Berries Never Spring shower gel: a Swedish organic skincare brand and a genius name, that’s enough for me. I bought it from the Stockholm airport, but it’s now available on Cult Beauty, too.
– Lumi Moisturizing Cleansing Milk: ‘Lumi’ means ‘snow’ in Estonian, that should explain it.
– Eve Lom Radiance Lift Cream: I prefer the brightening one, but I’m out of it at the moment.
– Armani Eyes to Kill in Moonlight (No 12): a beautiful silver eye shadow, you could do much worse when attempting that glamorous but sophisticated look
– Guerlain Meteorites Perles des Neiges: a beautiful version of the legendary Meteorites, although I wish it was less subtle and tasteful than it is.
– Ciate nail polish in Snow Virgin: almost impossible to apply, but I like the idea of white nails for winter.

Oh La La! Love the first picture! (the skirt is nice too 🙂 !!!)
and what fragrance were you wearing?
Thanks! I’m not sure I wore fragrance during the shoot, but same as for the black/silver post recently, Iris Cendre or Iris Silver Mist would be great. Or something powdery, for the snow, but I don’t own many powdery fragrances.
In my humble opinion the perfect powdery fragrance would be the one I am wearing today…the sadly discontinued Sonoma Scent Studio Lieu de Reves (Place of Dreams). I had always relegated this fragrance to the season of spring but honestly it is so pretty in the cold weather…it has unusual notes combined including rose, violet, heliotrope, orris, vetiver and cedar….
This does sound lovely. I bought quite a few SSS scents in the beginning of my perfumista career, but the shipping issues make everything so complicated now 🙁
If I may – you truly look stunning 🙂
You may 🙂 Thank you. I dithered a long time about posting the first picture, but it’s not often that something turns out excactly how you imagined it to be, so here it is.
No dithering necessary…you have the body so flaunt it 🙂 !!!!!
What a cool picture and fabulous skirt. It looks great with the t shirt too- I can also see it with a silk shirt or fitted sweatshirt. As someone who loves long statement skirts (I’m tall hence the appeal) as well as pencil skirts I spend a fair bit of thinking experimenting on how to get as much wear out of them as possible. Maybe an appropriate perfume would also be L’eau d’Hiver? The first picture made me think of Marlene Dietrich and you can’t get much better than that!
Your perfume suggestion is absolutely perfect. I do in fact have 5 ml of L’eau d’Hiver in Tallinn, so I can wear it during the holidays. Like you, I’m a fan of pencil skirts and long skirts – I’m also relatively tall and they just seem to work for me without any additional effort.
Thank you for the Marlene-association, it made my day.
You, the skirt, make-up, hair and photography are all so lovely. I read this while playing Early Winter which adds a nice edginess along with your t-shirt.
Thank you! I like that high-low combination as well, but my daughter – who otherwise approved of the pictures – said that I should have worn a fancier top 🙂
