Diptyque Travel Collection
It’s a well-established fact that I lose all my rational faculties when confronted with mini or travel-size beauty products. I’m sure they emit some sort of chemical that affects my brain particularly strongly. There is a practical side to my obsession, though: I do travel, for one. And smaller sizes are great if you like something, but not necessarily enough to hoard it in huge quantities.
Diptyque is a case in point for me. I do like the brand a lot, but the only thing I’ve ever bought in full size have been the candles. I am very fond of several of their fragrances, however, and very curious to try the skincare, so I’m extremely excited by their new Travel Edition. It includes several of the fragrances and a selection of face and body care in beautiful packaging.
I have just received a bottle of Philosykos, the best fig scent ever created, and two mini candles – Mimosa and Figuer (Philosykos in candle form). The candles seem to be the standard minis, just with different outer packaging, but the perfume is in a 30 ml bottle instead of the usual 50 or 100. You can buy a couple of the scents as 3x12ml travel sprays as well (not part of the travel collection) but if you like the oval bottle, you may prefer the new option.
What is completely new are the smaller versions of face and body products. Unfortunately, the Brussels airport did not carry any of them, but I still plan to buy the Infused Facial Water, Vinaigre de Toilette (how old school is that?), the Nourishing Cleansing Balm and the Satin Oil for Body and Hair. While smaller than originals, these include a decent amount of product and are excellent for somewhat longer trips where samples aren’t enough.
While I do not recommend visiting places where people judge you based on the content of your travel beauty bag, if you cannot escape such a situation for reasons beyond your control, Diptyque will not let you down. The stylish black-and white containers will look adorable in your matching Les Voyages canvas bag and let everyone know that you have excellent taste and your shit is so together that you can’t even. You can also burn your travel size Baies candle to keep evil people out of your hotel room.
PS The Travel Edition seems not to be permanent, so in case you are interested, I suggest you move fast. Diptyque home page, Space NK and Net-a-Porter are a few places to check out.
I too am drawn to travel sizes but then stupidly use them not only for travel! These look quite the part were one to be judged on the contents of one’s beauty bag as you say- as would Hermes minis. Enjoy your holiday.
I often use them to try out products – there ar less and less things I immediately buy a full size of. Then, if I really like something, I try to have both full and travel size products – not always possible, unfortunately. Btw, there is a travel version of the Caudalie oil: I bought it in Brussels, you may want to check if they have it in London as well. Very glad they’ve made it.
Ooh! Thanks for the psa regarding the Travel Edition!
I love travel and mini sizes, and while I could rationally tell anyone that they have their purpose, I suspect that my immature side recognizes them as toys. But … toys are good! 🙂
Yes, toys! That would explain it. Or, like, puppies and other small animals…
Thanks for the tip! I scampered right over there and bought some of the cleansing balm and a shower/hair gel. Also picked up a small Philosykos, because 30 ml.
Excellent choices! And exactly, I’ve been thinking about Philosykos for years, but jumped immediately on this 30ml version.
I didn’t think about the toy appeal, but of course, that’s true. Just like the miniature Sutton Hoo helmet I bought at the British Museum. No need for a full-size version of that, but the miniature is irresistible.
I now need that mini Sutton Hoo helmet really bad.
Received and used the cleansing balm. I love it, but someone who does not have dry skin might find it leaves too much residue.
Thank you for letting me know! If I like a balm, I don’t mind a little residue, as I use a second cleanser anyway.
