TagWhat I Wore for Christmas
For years, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Christmas – I guess I found it too bourgeois or something. I was never a hater either, though, and the older I get, the more I seem to appreciate this holiday of gingerbread, tinsel and Die Hard. Perhaps I’m just becoming more bourgeois myself, who knows. Or perhaps living abroad most of the time, spending time with one’s family just feels more special, Christmas or not.
Lockdown Life: Audiobooks & Red Dresses
Belgium is in lockdown again and I must admit I find writing about clothes in this situation difficult. It’s not that I think I shouldn’t or that I believe it’s somehow wrong to contemplate garments when the world is suffering, I just mostly don’t feel inspired*. Which is unfortunate, as I still have some nice pictures from my photo shoot in Estonia, which I haven’t posted.
Back to Basics
If you are someone who’s interested in clothes, chances are that in recent months you have been pondering your relationship with them. Does one really need any, beyond track pants? Was the pleasure you took in dressing up real or did you just imagine it? Who even are we when not directly exposed to the gaze of other people and their judgement?
The Dark Side of the Sun: Black in Summer, Eveningwear Edition
As I made abundantly clear in the first post of this series, I love black in the summer: minimal, chic, dramatic, casual, statement, practical, sensual – black can do it all. I have to admit, however, that after a week’s worth of black looks, I’m ready to mo..
On Dressing During the Apocalypse
If you are a regular reader, you know that I occasionally talk about sustainability and environment and climate change, but not really in depth. It’s not because I don’t think these things are important, I think they are HUGELY important – I have worked with..
Go For Gold! Or Silver. Or Bronze.
I am somewhat dubious about colour theories when it comes to clothes. If they work for you, great. In my case, I find that it is much easier to just try things on and see how they look on me, rather than spend all those hours figuring out your ‘type’ and the..
On Elegance
Elegance is like porn: difficult to define, but you’ll know it when you see it. ‘Elegant’ is a sibling term of ‘stylish’ – another difficult-to-explain concept – that implies a certain gracefulness and sophistication, often also simplicity. I don’t think, ho..
Big Dress Energy
It is funny how we come to define ourselves and our tastes a certain way and as a consequence, stop even trying anything different. There are people who don’t do colour and people who don’t wear trousers and people who refuse to put on heels. Or flats. And I..
Going Out With a Bang
The photos for this post were shot a while back already, as part of the series about rewearing things and making dresses autumn and winter appropriate. This dress makes complete sense in that context, as I’ve worn it many times over several years (friends fr..
What to Wear in The Lord of the Rings
I was a big daydreamer as a child, a combination of not having an overabundance of friends, an active imagination and reading more than was probably strictly healthy. When I was very small, I read so many fairytales (in addition to the usual suspects like th..
