Greetings from the Bog
Dear readers, this is a quick update to let you know that I’m alive and well – very much so, in fact, as I’m finally on vacation. Nothing exotic, I’m home in Estonia, currently visiting my family and some bogs in the Eastern parts of the country.
This missive is mostly to assure you that there WILL be blogging during these last days of August. I am woefully behind schedule, however: it always seems that one will have all that free time during holidays, but somehow said free time often refuses to materialise. My case is probably extreme, as I live abroad and this year, am trying to fit my family, my friends, my summer reading list and three photoshoots* into 10 days. And I hadn’t seen my daughter for more than a month before I landed in Tallinn.
I don’t mean to complain, although I realise it might sound awfully close. It’s more that I’m frustrated with myself for not getting the blogging done, as I have quite a bit of material almost ready to go. But although I’m fast, writing a decent post** takes time and concentration, both in short supply at the moment.
So bear with me, I’ll be back soon, hopefully already tomorrow. I have also recently discovered that Instagram stories aren’t as difficult to make as I thought (even if I’m still totally rubbish at them). So in case you’re interested in glimpses of my Estonian holiday, do check them out.
PS Estonian bogs are the most zen places on Earth. True fact.
*I realise that it doesn’t sound like much, but a proper shoot takes almost an entire day (makeup, hair, logistics, shooting itself). And that is not the most time-consuming part. I plan and organise all my shoots myself, from the concept to the clothes to the styling. Just finding the right MUA and photographer can be a challenge, not to mention that I need to travel with everything I’d need from Brussels. I admit I am also a bit of a perfectionist: even when I make a conscious decision to scale down the production (as with the office wear posts), I still find myself hunting for the right pair of shoes all over Tallinn.
**Whether they are decent is of course up for debate, but I try to make sure that I’ve got something to say (even if it’s ‘thic cleanser is very good’) and that I say it without insulting the readers’ intelligence. And yes, I’m aware that my use of hyphens is an inconsistent mess.
To me living in a warm climate, Estonia sounds quite exotic.
That is true, of course, it depends on one’s viewpoint.
