Dior “J’Adior” White Kitten Heels

Dior “J’Adior” White Kitten Heels

I get very annoyed with people who complain about the cost of everything. I don’t mean people in genuine economic difficulties, I mean people who pick a restaurant that they are fully familiar with, and then keep droning on about how expensive everything is. You know the type. If no one is forcing you to buy that La Prairie cream, don’t come to me crying about the price. Of course the price is ridiculous, but you knew it before you bought the damn thing.

This context makes it very awkward that all I can think of when I think of my new Dior shoes is the cost. I feel compelled to tell people that they are stupidly expensive, even though nobody made me buy them. I have bought expensive shoes before and it’s been OK – I’ve actually never been disappointed or regretted buying a pair. The Diors, however, are 730 euros and while I would gladly recommend Gucci loafers to anyone who can afford them, I’m not sure about my new heels.

I my (partial) defence, I would not have bought these, if I hadn’t been specifically looking for white shoes with a 6.5 centimetre heel that I could wear to the reception by the Estonian President. We couldn’t change the length of my dress*, so that dictated the height and the colour. There aren’t too many nice shoes around that fit these parameters and after not finding anything else I was entirely happy with, suddenly the Diors looked like an option.

In (partial) defence of the shoes, they do look good. They are on trend, but in a way that will probably be around for several years. The shape, the kitten heel and white patent leather make them look fresh: when a classic pump will not add any fashion points to your outfit, these will instantly make everything look more current. The J’Adior ribbon is a genuinely great idea and is easily recognisable, in case you like people to know you’re wearing Dior.

But. But. My main issue is that despite the relatively low heel, these shoes aren’t really comfortable. This is something I’m willing to tolerate with some of my higher heels; with 6 cm it just seems like bad design. In addition, they are not quite as versatile as I thought they would be. They look amazing with cropped jeans or trousers and some more relaxed midi skirts. With many other things, they just don’t seem right, there’s too much going on. I probably wouldn’t mind, if – you guessed it – I had paid a little less for this pair. If money is of no concern and you just love the look of these, by all means, get them. If, however, you want to get maximum wear out of a pair of expensive shoes, I advise caution. You might find in the end that they work perfectly for you, but make sure that’s the case before you take the plunge. There are also other colours and heel heights available, in case you’d prefer a slightly different version.

Why am I writing this? As I hope you know, I don’t think buying and wearing designer items is something to aspire to. However, when I do feel like splurging on something, I find it genuinely helpful to see what other people have thought of my potential purchase. So in case anyone is tempted by these shoes, I hope my point of view is useful.

*I didn’t have time this year to photograph the dress for the blog, but there is a picture on my Instagram, in case you’re interested.

They seem comfy enough! But I do get the conundrum of finding a perfect shoe for the dress! I had the same predicament with my wedding dress (which was silver and made by estonian designer) and I thought how hard it is to find right matching shoes from London…. but after trailing ALL the shops (starting high end high str and finishing with everybody at Bond str – Armani, Gucci et all (I was not even looking at price tags at the end) but found nothing that suited (I needed silver colour and 6cm heel height) or what I remotely liked…, so I had to go with my fuchsia LK Bennet mules I happened to have with me. As a hindsight I was quite pleased that I did not end up with ridiculously priced shoes that could not be worn again and to keep in mind that always have specific shoes already bought before the last hemline fitting

They are OK for the office, I’m just being more demanding because I feel for a luxury designer shoe, they should have done a better job. But indeed, finding shoes to match a special dress is always a struggle, especially when you need something that isn’t especially trendy at that moment or a classc. I remember having a pair of silver Manolos from Paris shipped to me with FedEx… Then again, these are of course nice problems to have.

Ah. This problem. Or, if you prefer, this solution. The dress (utterly beautiful, by the way; you looked gorgeous) dictated the shoes. If you hadn’t bought the shoes, the dress wouldn’t have worked. The hem might have dragged and become irreparably soiled. The dress and the shoes worked together as a single harmonious unit, and will continue to work for as long as both survive. It’s not extravagant or expensive to achieve that: it’s common and necessitous sense. As for comfort, well, most shoes become a little more comfortable with wear. So, though patent leather can be more trying than other finishes, there’s hope on that front. And you’re right about the shoes looking great with boyfriend jeans, so the versatility box is ticked as well.

I say, relax into the purchase, forget the price, and richly (unfortunate word in the context, perhaps) enjoy them for what they offer.

Thank you for the support🙂 Now that I have them, I’m very happy to wear them – just not for extended periods of walking. I’m just a little bit frustrated that the price-quality ratio is not what it should be in my view. This is irritating, but no worries, I’ll be able to enjoy the shoes nevertheless!

The Instagram picture of you and the rather dashing guy is beautiful. Your eyes and dress are absolutely captivating in the picture. 10/10

    Sorry about the shoes.

Aaawww, thank you. The blue eye makeup was the biggest risk took, but from the distance it just makes my eyes look extra blue. And that’s my partner of 18 years on that pic with me.

And I’m quite happy to wear the shoes now that I own them, as I do like the look. But without the demands of the dress, I would probably spend that money differently.

It certainly didn’t come across as bragging. To be honest, I think there are few times when one is allowed to brag, and a lasting relationship (however complex) with a hottie is one of them😉🤫
