Essie Leggy Legend

Essie Leggy Legend

It all started with a misunderstanding: somehow, I had convinced myself that Essie had done a true yellow gold polish for this autumn, but when I brought it home, I realized that it was actually bronze (and possibly a little bit copper, too). Not that it’s a bad thing.

The gorgeous – and very autumny – colour would be enough to make this little bottle noteworthy, but best is yet to come. First of all, it’s a one-coater, excellent news for lazy, impatient people like me. Two thin layers might give you a slightly better result, but it can be done with one (wearing two on the picture, though, sorry about that). It’s also streak free, something that is very difficult to find in a metallic, especially at this price point. I am not good at doing my nails, but I was able to apply this one without serious accidents, which counts for a major result in my case.

Leggy L on tips

Despite me being challenged in polish-applying department, I have always liked Essie polishes. Great colour selection, great price, great formulas. And I say this as a recreational buyer of Chanel polishes, so it’s not like I have never met a high-end nail product.

The latest seasonal Essie collections have been curated by designer Rebecca Minkoff. Autumn 2015 is good, with some nice, rich shades, but Leggy Legend was the only one I felt tempted to by. I was planning to get Chanel’s super dark green Vert Obscur, but now I’m actually thinking I should opt for Essie’s legendary Stylenomics instead (love the name, too). More gorgeous green for my buck.

PS I had planned to wear/photograph Leggy Legend in Brussels, with a cozy sweater and colourful leaves. Alas, I’m in fact wearing it in Sevilla, but it works at least as well in the Southern Spanish sun. It’s been years since I’ve matched my tips and toes, but I love this polish on both and why not simultaneously.

I was loving the look of this nail polish before I saw your blog, and your recommendation has now convinced me to actively keep an eye out and snaffle a bottle as soon as possible. Like you, I’m impatient when I do my nails -restless; things to do; words to write–and a single-coat polish therefore has much merit in my eyes. The colour is striking and beautiful, too: I can see it working in our hot summer as much as in a northern hemisphere autumn. Thank you!

Dear Frances, thank you for stopping by! I’ve just got back to Brussels and can now confirm with absolute certainty that the polish works nicely here, too. Although as Brussels is uncharacteristically lovely and sunny at the moment, the contrast between Spain and Belgium isn’t as pronounced as it could be. I was in fact thinking about the southern hemisphere when looking at Essie autumn collection: do global companies release different collections there? Or if not, when they decide on the products, is it a consideration that in some places the weather is quite different and they make sure to include shades (like this one) that would work in many contexts? I know there are lot’s of Asia exclusives, but not sure what the reach is…
