Lace and Laces

Lace and Laces

I’ve said it before and it’s still true – I find trends fascinating, not least their effect on me. While I like lace (see exhibit A and exhibit B), I don’t remember ever feeling a desire to buy a white lace dress – too bridal, too good-girl for me. And now, I have of course gone and bought two.

One of them is proper white, long-sleeved, midi and a bit boho (another thing I don’t really do) – but in a reserved way; the other an ivory mini dress that I might even call slightly sexy. So what happened? Suddenly, I just feel like wearing a white lace dress and there is no rational explanation. It’s just the season for it. I’m trying to avoid wearing them in completely predictable ways, however. Of course, leather sandals are always OK for summer, but I’m thinking more in the direction of wearing my old, extremely dirty Converse with the first dress and some black open-toe lace-ups with the second.

Which brings me to laces. As opposed to white lace, lace-up footwear is something that I’ve always liked, even if it has been very much out of fashion. I just have a soft spot for it, especially when we are talking slightly Victorian mid-calf or knee-high boots. This autumn is going to be a very good boot season for me, as the laces are everywhere (and not only on boots).

I can already imagine myself in those – currently still un-owned – black boots with the dress number one, a black velvet chocker and overdone, doll-like blush. Or in dress number two, accessorized with sheer black tights or even fishnets (but delicate ones, with small squares) and black liner. I can promise it’ll look anything but bridal.

Oh, these are gorgeous dresses! I like the sound of how you’re anticipating completing the looks. I’m a big fan of lace and lace-up footwear too. I saw a teenager wearing white tiered lace shorts with a black t-shirt and beat-up Converse just the other day and she looked amazing.
I also find trends fascinating, and I’m positively thrilled that pretty much anything goes now. It’s unpredictable, creative and fun!
