Long Leather Gloves

Long Leather Gloves

Every autumn, I buy a pair of elbow-length leather gloves. I’ve been doing this for something like 15 years and it still seems like an exceedingly good idea. I mostly need to keep buying new pairs because I keep losing the old ones, but occasionally, I encounter something I just cannot resist. I remember that one time Zara did plum-coloured gloves that I absolutely adored and of course managed to leave in a taxi after a week… Still not over it.

This year, I haven’t yet seen any particularly good colours (unless you count Prada that I cannot afford), but I have found a pair with genius shape. There are many reasons to wear longer gloves: they make bracelet sleeves feasible; they ensure that cold air doesn’t get in through that sneaky opening where the glove ends and coat hasn’t yet begun; AND they can give you slouch, if that’s what you’re after.

Other Stories

Never have I worn more excellently slouchy gloves than these by & Other Stories. As the upper part of the glove is considerably wider than the bit around the wrist, they never approach that prim, ladylike territory where classic fitted gloves can take you. If anything, they look a bit like you are going fishing. Or giving a discreet nod to musketeer style (the latter being a completely feasible theory in my case).

In addition to the style, the leather itself is lovely as well. I plan to wear these with everything, they are not super wide, so can still fit inside a coat sleeve, when a more classic look is required. They’ll look perfect with my cropped parka and tan cape and, especially, with chunky knits. Unless I lose them next week and have to start all over again.

Leave it to you to make me yearn for something I may not necessarily need 🙂
they look lovely and I will have to be on the lookout now for longer leather gloves (unlike you I don’t loose my gloves that often so I still have a pair from five years ago…I like the worn out leather look and they smell wonderful …an amalgamation of all the perfumes that have graced my wrists over the years 🙂 !!!)

Yes, one reason I like leather gloves is that they can look even better as they age. And that perfume accumulation effect is wonderful: I just put my cashemere sweater on and the remains of my airport perfume testing still cling to it. Lovely.

If you do like and wear leather gloves, the longer ones are well worth considering. They make your outfit that extra bit more special without any additional effort.
