A Great Mainstream Cleanser: Origins Jelly

A Great Mainstream Cleanser: Origins Jelly

My skincare obsession has been less in evidence recently, because I haven’t been buying as much as usual. In fact, since my Glossier haul, I’ve only bought a couple of bits and pieces and have been using up my (still too big) existing stash. There are, however, things I can never resist and jelly cleansers belong to that category.

Origins accompanied their launch of the new Cleansing Makeup-Removing Jelly With Willowherb with a serious marketing push (at least among the influencer crowd), so I was already pining for it. And when I found myself in Estonia without a proper first cleanse product – a serious packing error -, I felt buying this was completely justified.

This product combines pretty much all my cleanser preferences. It’s a jelly texture that is probably my favourite of them all. It is, however, a balmy jelly – it’ll turn into oil on your skin and then to milk when water is added (of all the cleansers I’ve tried, it’s closest to Algenist Genius and Zelens Pure Z also hybrids; Glossier is lighter and Drunk Elephant more like traditional gel). This makes it as good at makeup removal as my oils and balms. It comes in a tube, so it’s mess-free and easy to travel with. It’s also rather small, which I like, as I tend to buy too many cleansers and I don’t want them to be neglected – not that I’m worried about this one, as I want to use it every day. There is zero tightness after cleansing, in fact, I think it’s slightly moisturising.

Finally, and maybe most crucially for many of my readers, this is accessible. I don’t mind buying skincare online and often blindly, as I’m a crazy person of comfortable means. I have long had an issue with the lack of good mainstream cleansers, however, especially when we talk modern textures. This one can be bought in most bigger cities and airports and holds up when compared to my most niche luxury stuff. It is also relatively reasonably priced, although maybe not as affordable as it initially looks, as the tube is small-ish. Then again, you do not need much and it’s a pleasure to use.

The only potential draw-back I can think of is that it has a sweet smell, something that doesn’t bother me at all, but might be a deal-breaker for the more sensitive ones among us. Other than that, I don’t hesitate to recommend this jelly to everyone who is looking for a proper cleanser that works equally well as first, second and morning cleanse. Lovely stuff.

Need to try this. Did you get it from Kaubamaja? I have been loyal to Caudalie oil (discovered via this place actually) but I have to order it online and it is becoming a nuisance.

Yes, from Kaubamaja. And I think if you like the Caudalie oil, there’s a good chance you’ll like this as well. Although one never knows, skincare is tricky. Worth a try, definitely.

I am suddenly out of all my beauty products (the few I used – cream and cleanser – shame on me!). But I promised myself to start taking better care of my skin, especially considering the countless dark spots I get from sun. It seems to be a side-effect of a baby birth, as I never notices these before. So I have surfed your blog and found a lot of inspiration, but now, where the hell can I buy this stuff when I live in Estonia? Do you know any good online store that delivers to Estonia? I have checked some and they only have some, so it’s very annoying. I am more into reasonably priced brands (Caudalie, Ordinary, Clinique), otherwise I could afford only 1 or 2 products. Would like to get my essentials kit for around 300. Please let me know if you have any hints about decent online stores.

I don’t think there is any one place that has everything, be it on or off-line (US Sephora comes closest, but even they aren’t perfect and they don’t shop here). I actually think Kaubamaja has a decent selection, on the more reasonable side of things, they’ve got REN, Pixi, Missha, Mizon, Origins and Emma Hardie. Big pharmacies have the well-known French brands, Caudalie is probably the only notable exception (you should be able to get it from Escentual or Beautilish). These two places should allow you to put a good routine together already. For more advanced stuff, I mostly shop at Cult Beauty and Space NK, especially the first, and occasionally Net-a-Porter. The first two do free shipping, if you buy over 50 or 70 pounds, respectively. These cover most of my needs, plus I shop the pharmacies and a couple of fancier shops in Brussels. The only things I really miss are some US brands (Drunk Elephant and Tatcha in particular). Btw, Cult Beauty now carries The Ordinary as well. Anyway, getting to a routine that works perfectly for your skin, wallet and logistic requirements takes some time and experience. If my blog looks effortless, it’s of course a compliment, but I spend hours researching, testing, analysing and planning every week. I suggest cultivating some patience🙂
