September Memo: Hemingway, L’Oreal Mascara and Tom Hiddleston

September Memo: Hemingway, L’Oreal Mascara and Tom Hiddleston

And the holidays are over, just like that. Generally, I tend to be excited for autumn and I am this year as well, but I feel that the 12-day vacation was simply too short. Whining about it does not help, however, so let’s focus on things I’m looking forward to.

1. Autumn edits. This memo is not very in-depth, because I’m going to do autumn style, skincare, perfume and beauty edits (similarly to last year), where I’ll talk about these topics in more detail. I might do one on eating/exercise/lifestyle as well, if I feel confident enough. And I have not forgotten the request to do a post on hair care, this will come as well.

2. Reading. My holiday reading was disappointing (I’ll post the wrap-up tomorrow, hopefully), so I really must focus on things on my list, rather than new books. But there are a couple that I need to get and read: the new Rooney and the new Harari in particular, despite my frustrations with him that are sure to continue. And when Robert Jackson Bennett writes fantasy, I pay attention, so I will get his Foundryside, too.

3. Round bags. These have been around (hah!) for a while, but mostly in very summery versions and I haven’t really been that interested. Until this brown Sézane version came out… I cannot imagine it’s very practical, but look at it!

4. Boxy bags. Talking about bags, the fashion world cannot shut up about the new Céline bag, designed by Hedi Slimane and spotted (obviously not by accident) on Lady Gaga in Cannes. I do like it, but I’m simultaneously sad that Phoebe Philo’s cool grown-up (as opposed to cool girl) aesthetic will be forever banished from the brand.

5. Notable mascara. If you follow beautytubers (I just made this term up), you have surely seen the new L’Oreal Unlimited mascara some time ago already. It has just hit the stores in Estonia (and I assume in Belgium), however, so it’s a good time to mention it. I cannot stand the gimmicky packaging and the price is really pushing it for L’Oreal, but it’s a good mascara.

6. Tom’s lips. In other beauty news, I am interested in the Tom Ford lacquer-tint lip products. Frankly, I find their lip categories confusing and cannot understand why my favourite formula basically comes in eight very similar reds and dark pinks, but whatever. It’s Tom Ford, we are not meant to understand.

7. The scent of Hemingway. One of my favourite niche perfume houses, Masque Milano, has come out with a homage to Hemingway and it’s a vetiver. I’m very excited and will try to sniff it this weekend.

8. The Night Manager. This is way too late, but only time I watch TV is when I’m on holiday in Estonia, so bear with me. I watched one episode of The Night Manager and loved it and am of course in love (again) with Tom Hiddleston. The only thing that would help would be watching Patrick Melrose to fall in love (again) with Benedict Cumberbatch.

9. Madonna. This is an even older reference, but Madonna’s birthday brought this piece in the Interview magazine to my attention. I don’t care if her face and skin have been manipulated to death (or to more life in this case), I just love these images and am kind of planning to dress like this. Possibly for work.

What are you excited for in September?

I bought the Tom Ford lip lacquer in Loveless, the purple shade. The metallic reds look gorgeous too. I cannot wait for detailed posts on autumn style, makeup, skincare, perfume, haircare and yes, we need more ‘lifestyle’ posts!
